Pupil Premium

Back

The pupil premium is a Government grant allocated to individual children from low-income families, criteria includes pupils who have been or are eligible for free-school meals, looked after children, children who have a parent in the services. Schools should use the Pupil Premium to raise the attainment of pupils, regardless of their ability.

The Pupil Premium Grant Funding is additional funding allocated to schools to enhance the educational outcomes of disadvantaged pupils, provided to help narrow the attainment gap with their peers. This funding is allocated to children who are looked after by local authorities and those eligible for Free School Meals at any point in the last six years, referred to as 'ever 6'. As a school, we have adopted a tiered approach to Pupil Premium, ensuring that all our students can access learning opportunities effectively. High-quality teaching is essential to support and promote the successful development of every child.

The Pupil Premium Grant funding is currently used to enhance educational outcomes through the below initiatives:

  • Targeted teaching and learning opportunities led by specifically trained staff.
  • Group work tailored for identified pupils with an experienced teacher to address learning gaps.
  • One-to-one support provided where deemed most effective.
  • Acquiring effective materials aimed at offering children opportunities to bring learning to life (Museum learning).
  • 'Beyond the classroom' activities, including after-school clubs and enrichment programmes.
  • Creating opportunities for More Able Pupils to achieve in line with their national counterparts.
  • Initiatives aimed at improving attendance and behaviour among disadvantaged pupils.
  • Opportunities for liaising with parents and carers, alongside collaboration with external agencies for further support.
  • Additional pastoral care for some of our most vulnerable families to ensure their well-being and success.
