Attendance

At The Langley Heritage Primary School, we firmly believe that attendance matter, pupil attendance and punctuality is closely monitored internally by Mrs Harris and Miss Noctor, as well as Local Authority Attendance Officers.

What impact does my child’s attendance have on their ability to achieve at school?

To give your child the best chance of achieving their best they must attend school every day and arrive punctually.

A child with an attendance rate of 90% misses a half day out of every school week. If this continues throughout school, by the time your child is in Year 11, he/she would have missed more than half of a school year!

What happens if my child does not attend regularly?

If children do not attend school regularly they will:

  • Experience difficulty in settling and maintaining friendships
  • Experience difficulty in their learning
  • Miss out on a variety of fun activities

How is good attendance recognised?

We are committed to developing outstanding attendance patterns for all children. Children that maintain 100% attendance throughout the year will be recognised in a special attendance assembly.

What if my child is ill?

If your child has a minor illness such as a sniffle or cough, please send them into school, we are willing to administer medication on your behalf. This will build their resilience and resistance to illness.

How do I report my child’s absence?

If your child is unable to attend school, due to illness, please telephone the school office (01753 542269) by 8.50am to report their absence. If you are unsure of whether to send your child to school, please send your child in. Often children get better when they get into school and see their friends. If they get worse we will call you.

What will happen if my child needs medication at school?

During your home visit, we will ask you about any health conditions that your child has, such as asthma or allergies. To administer medication to your child, we will need to discuss this with you and require you to complete a medication form.

What will happen if my child is often absent?

The National Average for primary pupil’s attendance is 96%. Should your child’s attendance fall below this level, you will be invited into school to discuss reasons for absence and develop a plan to improve attendance. Consistent poor attendance will lead to referrals to the Local Authority.

What if I need a family holiday?

To request leave during term-time you will need to complete a ‘Leave of absence form’. Any leave during term-time can only be authorised by Miss Blackmore. It is policy only to grant leave for exceptional reasons and supporting evidence is needed. Holiday requests will NOT be authorised.
