Music

Music is a powerful, unique form of communication that can change the way pupils feel, think and act. At the Langley Heritage Primary our aim is to teach a curriculum that is accessible to all students and to instil and develop a life-long love of music. We focus on developing the skills, knowledge and understanding the pupils need to become musicians. The curriculum introduces pupils to music from all around the world and across generations, teaching pupils to respect and appreciate the music of all traditions and communities from the past to modern day.

Pupils develop the musical skills of singing, playing tuned and untuned instruments, improvising and composing music, and listening and responding to music. They grow an understanding of the history and cultural context of the music they listen to and learn how music can be notated. Through our music curriculum, pupils acquire transferrable skills such as working collaboratively, creative thinking, leadership, problem solving, presentation and performing skills. These build the solid foundation of basic life skills, which are vital to a child’s development as learners and can be applied to their general life up until secondary school and beyond. The impact of this is that they become confident performers, composers, and listeners.
