Volunteer with us

DSC02537Our volunteer programme stems from our long-standing partnership with the University of Reading. Our volunteers are often second-year students on the Museum Studies Joint Honours programme. However, you do not have to be a university student to volunteer with us. Our volunteer programme is open to all.

Students choose to volunteer with us to gain experience of working with museum collections in an educational setting and to build skills that complement their degree and put their learning into practice. Volunteering with us also supports their Placement module which forms an official mandatory component of their degree.

Collection2We have three main role profiles: Museum Learning, Museum Collections and Museum Evaluation. But, we encourage flexi-volunteering where your voluntary experience is shaped around the skills and experiences you want to gain. So if you wish to, you can get involved in tasks that will support skills development in all three areas.

In recent years our volunteers have supported the running of digital museum club, helped run archaeology day activities and researched and developed a new Victorians loans box. Interested to hear more about what it is like to volunteer with us? Have a read of this volunteer blog post.

“It is an exciting environment to be a part of. The range of tasks are good at developing a wide skill set and preparing me for a potential career in the heritage sector”  - Freya
